Lieutenant George Farragut Chapter, NSDAR, is committed to the mission of DAR: historic preservation, education, and patriotism. We are also all about friendships! Please enjoy these photos of our chapter in action.
Historic Preservation
Lieutenant George Farragut Chapter, NSDAR, actively pursues historical buildings for recognition with a historical marker. We are also passionate about sharing arts from the past.
Honoring Vietnam War Veterans The Lieutenant George Farragut Chapter, NSDAR, is a proud partner of The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration, sponsored by the Department of Defense. Vietnam veterans were welcomed home and honored in a moving program held on March 29, 2022. All Vietnam veterans in attendance, some in wheelchairs or using canes or walkers, were invited to the microphone to state their names. All received a hearty applause.
The two-hour program included songs, speeches, stories, and video clips, as well as pin and wreath ceremonies.
Education
The Daughters of Lieutenant George Farragut Chapter, NSDAR, presents programs to local elementary school students. Each year we sponsor the American History Essay Contest and the Patriots of the American Revolution High School Essay Contest. In 2021 our fifth-grade chapter winner advanced to the national level where she won first place! We have recognized outstanding history teachers who are passionate about teaching history to the next generation. We provided activity backpacks to our local children's library to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Santa Fe Trail. Constitution Week is dear to our hearts. Chapter members set up displays at several local libraries and work with our local newspaper to promote the Constitution to our community.
Patriotism
Lieutenant George Farragut Chapter, NSDAR, members love to support our veterans and serve our community. We have held quilting bees to make blankets to send to the military both overseas and locally. We fold paper pocket flags to deliver to the local Army National Guard and to veterans returning from an Honor Flight. Our chapter was instrumental in bringing the Wreaths Across America Mobile Exhibit to North Idaho in 2022.
Our chapter's parade entries for 2023 commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party.
